Canterbury’s Oyster Bar and Grill

is Oyster Bay’s beloved family restaurant serving creative comfort American fare with a focus on fresh seafood for over 35 years.

We pride ourselves on sincere and accommodating service in a warm and cozy environment. Our ambiance is a unique mix of the local oyster and fish trade combined with the historic Theodore Roosevelt era. (No trip is complete here without a visit to Roosevelt’s Sagamore Hill home.) During your visit to Canterbury’s you will enjoy our immense picture gallery proudly exhibiting historic memorabilia honoring the life and times of Theodore Roosevelt as well as turn of the century Oyster Bay and the very compelling paintings by “America’s Artist”; Mort Kunstler.
We are open seven days a week for lunch and dinner offering diverse menu choices and value…we like to say there is something for everyone.  The food ranges from the freshest oysters and shellfish to a vast selection of appetizers, not to mention our famous local steamers and mussel pots.

The main menu features a full range of salads, sandwiches, gourmet burgers, including a fine selection of pastas, BBQ, steak, fish, and seafood and signature dishes.  Make sure to save room for dessert…our home made treats are sure to satisfy the kid in you.  There is no shortage of libations...our incredible bar boasts one of Long Island's most coveted collections of small batch and craft:  Bourbon, Scotch, Whiskey, Tequila, Mezcal and many other artisan spirits. If it is beer you fancy we have been home to “99 bottles of beer on the wall” for thirty years and we proudly pour sixteen tap handles, many of which support the local brewers who call New York home! In addition, we now have available 32 and 64 ounce growlers so you can take home some of your favorite local brews.

Over the years, Canterbury’s has received some very positive press from the media.  One of our favorite quotes we feel sums up the Canterbury experience was from Newsday’s Food critic, Joan Remenick.   I would like to share it with you. Joan writes:

“Recently, I spoke with a man who said he and his wife believe in dining only at the finest restaurants.  I like to experience every meal as though it were my last.” He added, “I frequently spend $100 per person for that type of experience.”  

Joan then said, “My view of dining is decidedly more lighthearted  and less costly…I maintain that great, not just good food, can be found at the low to moderate end of the price scale.  What makes a great EATS meal though is not merely price or cuisine, but warmth, honesty and festivity that rather than adding up to the last best meal on earth, instead seems to say, “Party on food pilgrims, the fun is just beginning”
